Good Hands Veterinary Hospital is proud to announce an exciting new treatment option for its patients, Class IV Laser therapy!
Laser therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light to promote recovery and healing. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation, and decreased swelling. Therapeutic Lasers have been widely utilized by physical therapists, doctors, and nurses throughout Europe since the 1970's. Since FDA clearance in 2002, laser therapy has become a widely applied treatment for healing and pain reduction across medical fields and most recently throughout veterinary medicine.
Laser therapy has proven to bio-stimulate tissue repair and growth. The Class IV Laser accelerates wound healing; and decreases inflammation, pain, and scar tissue formation. When it comes to pain management, laser therapy is a painless and non-invasive alternative treatment that provides dramatic results without the risk of the severe side effects associated with many medications.
Laser therapy is a valuable treatment for pets of all ages; that requires no sedation, thus generally providing a stress-free experience for the patient. While most often improvement is seen after the initial laser visit, laser treatments are a cumulative therapy. Therefore, some patients may require multiple treatments, (3 to 8) for the maximum benefit. Depending upon the condition, each treatment will last between 2 to 8 minutes. Most patients show greater comfort and increased mobility within the first 12 to 24 hours of treatment. Upon diagnosis, our doctors will recommend a laser therapy treatment plan specific to your pets' condition.
Therapeutic effects of Class IV Lasers include improved healing times, increased joint flexibility, reduced symptoms of osteoarthritis, improved peripheral microcirculation, reduced muscle spasms, detoxification & elimination of trigger points, and overall advanced pain relief.
The physical benefits of laser therapy are brought about through increased circulation, by bringing water, oxygen, and healing nutrients to the damaged area. This process relieves stiffness, pain, reduces swelling, and thus increases the pet's range of motion.
Patients will soon exhibit renewed energy and freedom of movement. Based on your pet's treatment plan, we may suggest a gradual reintroduction to activity in order to ensure that your pet does not re-aggravate the condition.
We have designed treatment protocols for: Arthritis Hot Spots Ligament Sprains Chronic Wounds Post-Surgical Pain Post-Orthopedic Surgical Recovery Hip Dysplasia Lick Granulomas Ear Infections Edema and Muscle Strains Post-Traumatic Injury Neck and Back Pain Burns
There is little or no sensation during treatment. The patient may feel mild, soothing warmth or tingling. Areas of pain or inflammation may be sensitive briefly before pain reduction.
Very few side effects have been reported in the 20 years of laser therapy use. Occasionally, some old injuries may feel aggravated for a few days because the healing response is more active after the initial treatment.
Acute conditions may be treated daily, especially if accompanied by significant pain. Most chronic problems are treated three times the first week, twice the second week, and once the third week.
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions, 1 to 2 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 5 to 8 (or more) treatments. Some conditions may require periodic booster treatments in order to control pain.
Your pet will most likely feel improvement in their condition (usually pain reduction) after the first treatment. However, sometimes they may not feel physical progress for a number of treatments. Though recovery may not be immediately evident in these cases; physical healing on the cellular level is occurring during this period of time. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 or 4 sessions.
Yes. Laser therapy is often used with other forms of therapy, including physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, massage, soft tissue mobilization, electrotherapy, and following various surgical procedures. Other healing modalities are complimentary, and can be used with laser therapy to increase the efficacy of the treatment.
